Maryland Defeats Georgetown, 6-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team snapped a nine-match losing streak in a non-conference win over Georgetown, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terrapins improved to 8-10 on the season, while the Hoyas fell to 3-7.

Senior Marianne Baker defeated Georgetown's Stephanie Cohen, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles position, while fellow senior Brooke Rogers won her match over Adriann Gin, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, at the No.4 singles spot.

Sophomore Michal Amir beat Courtney Olsen, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 singles slot. Freshman Elyse Steiner retired during the second set of her match against Liz Winokur (7-6, 3-2, ret.) at the No. 3 spot.

Freshman Maggie MacKeever defeated Kelsey Darnell, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 5 position, while freshman Lisa Miller beat Briana Kearney, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 6 slot.

The Terps won two of three doubles matches to earn a point. Baker and Masha Senic beat Winokur and Gin 9-8, while Miller and Steiner defeated Kearney and Darnell, 8-3. Amir and MacKeever lost to Olsen and Cohen, 8-2.

The Terrapins will head south for the weekend to face Virginia at noon Saturday and Virginia Tech at noon Sunday. The match vs. Va. Tech will be webcast on ACC Select.
