COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The nationally-ranked Maryland women's tennis team will play host to Richmond at 1 p.m. Saturday and No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth at noon Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The Terps, who are ranked No. 32 nationally, suffered their first loss of the spring season on Wednesday with a 5-2 loss to No. 25 William & Mary.
The Terrapins are now 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with their recent win over Boston College (5-2) on February 11.
Richmond is currently 0-4 in the spring season, with their most recent defeat coming last Friday against Old Dominion, 5-2. VCU is 9-3, with its latest win coming Wednesday over ODU,nb 6-1.
After being swept in the doubles portion of the match, the Terps fought back to win two of the six singles matches against the Tribe. Senior Marianne Baker, who is ranked No. 75 nationally, defeated No. 68 Katarina Zoricic (6-4, 6-4) in the No. 1 singles slot. Freshman Eleanor Peters also won her singles match with a win over No. 5 Megan Moulton-Levy (7-5, 4-6, 1-0 [13-11]) in the No. 2 doubles position.
Sophomore Michal Amir saw her six-match winning streak end with a loss to Ragini Acharya (7-5, 6-0) in the No. 3 singles slot.
