COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Julia Huschke and freshman Burce Kurkan won both their doubles and singles matches, but it wasn't enough as the Maryland women's tennis team lost 4-3 to Rutgers Sunday.

With the match tied at 3-all, Lexi Brand fell to Jennifer Holtzberg 6-4, 6-3 giving the Scarlet Knights (3-1, 0-1 Big East) their second victory of the weekend.

The Terps (0-3, 0-1 ACC) stormed out to a strong start, winning three of the first four points.

Maryland swept doubles led by the No.1 team of Lisa Miller and Maggie MacKeever, who combined to defeat Rutgers' Katherine Arlak and Amy Zhang 8-5. Lexi Brand and Jordan Hansbrough, and Kurkan and Huschke also won their doubles matches.

Huschke picked up a convincing win at No. 3 singles beating Katherine Arlak 6-3, 6-1. Kurkan came back in her No. 5 singles match to win in the third set 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

"If anyone watched the matches, we have kids who are really invested and really trying hard," said Maryland head coach Howard Joffe.

Next Saturday the Terps will play host to Penn in an 11 a.m. match at the Tennis Center at College Park.
