WILLIAMSBURG VA-- The University of Maryland women's tennis team wrapped up a successful weekend at the 10th Annual William & Mary Invitational. Terps, junior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and freshman Andreaa Fusea (Bucharest, Romania) won the Flight C Doubles title, giving Maryland a total of six wins on the final day of competition.
Senior, No. 36 Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) squared off against teammate, No. 88 junior Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) Marker edged her doubles partner, 6-1, 6-3 in the consolation match of the "Williams" Flight. In the "Green" Flight, Jedrejak recorded a singles win over Miami's Sara Robbins, 7-6, 6-2.
Freshman Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, FL) notched her second singles win of the Invitational by defeating Igna deVilliers (Miami) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Maryland won all three of its doubles matches on the day. The No. 25 team of Causevic and Marker defeated No. 29 Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea (Minn), 8-5. Junior Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) and partner Dent, won their doubles match on a default by Michigan. Jedrzejak and Fusea defeated Chrissie Nolan/Tipirneni (Mich.) to claim Flight C.
The Terps get ready to host the Maryland Invitational, to be held from Sept. 27-29 at the Tennis Center at College Park. Participating teams are Richmond, Syracuse, West Virginia, American, Cornell, Penn State and George Washington.
