COLLEGE PARK, MD-- The University of Maryland women's tennis team will host the 2002 Maryland Invitational at the Tennis Center at College Park. Participating schools are Richmond, Syracuse, West Virginia, American, Cornell, Penn State and George Washington. The annual fall tournament will span for three days, from Sept. 27-29.
The Terps return with four starters, senior three-time All-ACC selection Delila Causevic (Sarajevo, Bosnia), senior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) and juniors, Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) and Emily Marker (Ann Arbor. Mich.) Three freshmen joined Maryland's roster this year: Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.), Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) and Andreaa Fusea (Bucharest, Romania). The Terps played in the 10th Annual William & Mary Invitational last weekend, where they notched a team total of 24 wins.
"We have a good squad this year," head coach Martin Novak said. "We have depth in the top spots and the athletes are all tough competitors."
Novak will be joined by new assistant coach, Joey Barnes III and volunteer coach, D.J. Butler.
