COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team ended regular season play with a victory over Wake Forest Sunday, defeating the Demon Deacons, 4-3, in College Park. Senior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland), playing in her last regular season match as a Terp, was honored before the game by her coaches and teammates. She finished the day undefeated, leading the Terps with both a singles and doubles victory. The team is now 10-10 overall, 2-5 in conference play heading into the ACC Championships.
Jedrzejak and Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) won at No. 1 doubles, beating Wake Forest's Katie Martzolf and Danielle Schwartz, 8-5. Maryland clinched the point when the freshman duo of Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and Andreea Fusea (Bucharest, Romania) defeated Alexandra Knight and Elizabeth Proctor, 8-5, at the No. 3 position.
Jedrzejak went on to win her match at No. 3 singles, beating Wake Forest's Aimee Smith in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) also had a singles victory over Katie Martzolf, 6-1, 6-4, and junior Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) clinched the victory for Maryland. She beat Alexandra Knight, 6-4, 6-3.
