Women's Tennis Improves To 3-0 With Win Over Old Dominion

COLLEGE PARK, Md - The University of Maryland women's tennis team edged Old Dominion, 5-2, at the Tennis Center at College Park. Singles wins were notched by junior Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomlabreteche, France) and by the freshmen trio of Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania), Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and Andreea Fusea (Bucharest, Romania).

The Terps jumped on the board first, notching two out of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, the team of junior co-captain Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and But defeated Lady Monarchs Nataly Cahana and Maretha Van Niekerk, 8-5. The tandem of senior co-captain Marta Jedrzejak and Chavardes also notched a 8-2 doubles win over Kerstin Endlich and Verena Munzinger.

Maryland found success in singles play as well. At No. 2 singles But downed Endlich in two sets, 7-6, 6-2. Dent won over Julia Sotiriu after a second set tie-breaker. Fusea and Chavardes locked the win for Maryland at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots. Fusea handed Coralie Herrman a 6-1, 6-0 loss and Chavardes defeated Munzinger, 6-1, 7-6(7-2).

The Terps will host American at home at noon on Feb. 9 to finish off their double-header weekend. Admission to the meet is free.
