COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In the first match of its final homestand of the year, the University of Maryland women's tennis team (9-10, 1-5 ACC) notched a victory over ACC foe NC State Saturday in College Park. With the 4-3 victory, the Terps snap an eight game losing streak and earn their first conference win of the season.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of freshman Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) and senior Marta Jedrzejak (Sieradz, Poland) defeated NC State's Loni Warsley and Kristin Lam, 8-2. The Terps went on to win the doubles point after a win by the team of Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and Andreea Fusea (Bucharest, Romania). The duo defeated NC State's Carmen Torres and Virginia Romero, 8-6.
In singles action, But, Jedrzejak and junior Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) all posted wins for Maryland. But won her third straight singles match, dominating at the No. 1 position. She defeated NC State's Virginia Romero, 6-0, 6-0. Marker and Jedrzejak also both won in straight sets, clinching the victory for the Terps. Marker beat NC State's Kristin Lam, 6-4, 6-2, and Jedrzejak beat Danielle Stadelmann, 6-1, 6-2.
Maryland returns to the court Sunday, April 13, in their final home match of the year. They will take on Wake Forest at the Tennis Center at College Park in a match scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
