COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After opening the spring with a pair of road wins, the Terps nationally-ranked women's tennis team is looking to continue its winning streak this weekend at home.
The Terps will play host to the Mississippi Rebels at 11 a.m. Saturday and the West Virginia Mountaineers at 10 a.m. Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park where admission is free.
Last weekend, the Terps, who moved up four spots this week to No. 33 in the national polls, defeated both Yale (4-3) and Syracuse (6-1).
Mississippi, which is ranked No. 51 in the nation, and West Virginia are each 2-0 on the season. The Rebels went 11-9 in 2005-06, while the Mountaineers finished the 11-12 but won the Big East Conference Championship.
The Terps had a solid effort last weekend. Senior Marianne Baker, sophomore Michal Amir and freshman Lisa Miller each won at singles and doubles last weekend. The trio undefeated in the spring season. Baker is ranked No. 75 nationally in singles.
Freshman Eleanor Peters, who is ranked No. 8 in singles in the East Region, lost to Janet Kim of Yale (6-3, 6-0) last Saturday, but bounced back to defeat Maria Vasilyeva of Syracuse (6-2, 7-5) the following day.
Baker and Peters are the 44th-ranked doubles duo in the nation.
