ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A pair of Atlantic Coast Conference champions and their school record-holding teammate will represent Maryland on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.

ACC pentathlon and triple jump champion Thea LaFond, ACC high jump champ Amber Melville and high-jump standout Amina Smith will compete on Saturday at the indoor nationals.

The pentathlon will begin at 1:45 EDT and student-athletes will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters.

LaFond is seeded fourth in the 16-woman field after scoring a career-best 4,222 points to win the ACC title.

She would have also qualified for nationals in the high jump and triple jump, but the schedule of the nationals was too tight to enable her to compete in those events.

Melville and Smith will compete at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday in the women’s high jump, where they are both seeded fourth.

They each cleared 6 feet, 1-1/4 inches at the ACC Indoor, but Melville won the title due to fewer misses. They were just over the Terps’ school record of 6-1 that had stood for 34 years.

The top eight performers at nationals earn first team All-America status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The NCAA Indoor will be streamed live on the Internet on ESPN3 starting Friday at 7:55 p.m. and on Saturday at 7:50 p.m.
