Terps Finish Fifth Behind Eades, Peffley

AIKEN, S.C. - Senior John Eades and junior transfer Blaine Peffley tied for fourth individually to lead the University of Maryland to a fifth-place finish in the team standings on Tuesday at the Cleveland Golf / Palmetto Invitational hosted by South Carolina-Aiken.

Eades closed with a final-round 75 for a 216 total over the three rounds, while Peffley moved up the leaderboard on the last day with a 2-under-par round of 69. Peffley was making his first appearance for the Terrapins after transferring from the University of Arizona.

As a team, Maryland rallied with a 290 on Tuesday for an 883 total and fifth place overall. The Terps closed within two shots of College of Charleston. Host USC-Aiken and Houston shared the team championship with an 869 total.

Also for Maryland, Tyler Witman shot a 73 on Tuesday to finish at 224 and tie for 27th. Tully Coyle had a 232 total and a tie for 49th after a final-round 78, while Skip Clasper closed with a 73 for a 235 total and a tie for 57th place.

Jordan Irwin of Houston won the medalist honor with a 212 total. He finished three shots better than Daryl Chappell of VCU and Scott Brown of USC-Aiken.

Maryland next plays on Monday and Tuesday of next week at the William & Mary Invitational.
