MacDonald, MacWhinnie Shoot 77s to Lead Terps at ACC Tourney

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Senior Dan MacDonald and junior Bobby MacWhinnie each shot rounds of 77 on Saturday in the second round of the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf championship being held at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.

MacDonald was in a tie for 36th place individually with a two-day total of 150, leading the Terps on the scoreboard. MacWhinnie's 77 matched his round on Friday, and his two-day total of 154 was in a tie for 41st, a group that included teammate Tim Kane, who shot 79 on Saturday.

John Eades was in 38th at 152 following his 78 on Saturday, while freshman Tyler Witman was 43rd at 155 after shooting an 80.

As a team, Maryland posted a 311 total on Saturday, putting them in ninth place in the team standings at 608. Clemson shot a 275 in the second round to spring into the lead at 559 after 36 holes. NC State was in second at 566, with Wake Forest in third at 569.

The Tigers were led by Jack Ferguson's 67 on Saturday, as he moved to the top of the individual leader board with an 8-under total of 136. Sean Moore of Wake Forest matched his 67 and was one stroke back.
