COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A pair of University of Maryland men's golfers, Brendan Tracy and Sean Brennan, will participate in the U.S. Amateur in Tulsa, Okla., from Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills C.C. after earning their spots through regional qualifiers. It marks the first time in school history that two Terrapins qualified for the event in the same year.
Senior Brendan Tracy from New York, N.Y., was medalist of the qualifier at Long Island National in Riverhead, N.Y. Tracy won the event by one stroke with scores of 66-75, sinking six birdies in his morning round.
Sean Brennan of Hollidaysburg, Pa., shot consecutive rounds of 69 in his qualifier at Sinking Valley C.C. in Altoona, Pa., good enough to earn the first alternate spot. He will participate in the U.S. Amateur due to medalist Nathan Smith's selection to the Walker Cup Team.
Brennan will begin his career at Maryland this fall after transferring from Georgia Southern.
The Terp duo is now a part of the 312-golfer field at the 2009 U.S. Amateur. The event begins with 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 24-25. The field is cut to the low 64 players for match play after Tuesday's round. Match play begins on Wednesday and continues until the 36-hole final on Sunday.
