COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head coach Tom Hanna today announced the men's golf team's 2009 fall schedule, which commences with the Maryland Intercollegiate at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge, Md.
The Terrapins will host the Maryland Intercollegiate for the second-consecutive year. River Marsh Golf Club will serve once again as site of the event, with 54 holes of action from Sept. 12-13. Fifteen teams will compete for the title, including Atlantic Coast Conference foes Virginia, North Carolina and N.C. State.
Maryland will travel to Richmond, Va., for the VCU Shootout (Sept. 28-29) in its next tournament before departing for Akron, Ohio, for the Firestone Invitational (Oct. 12-13). The Terps' fall campaign concludes with back-to-back tournaments in the state of Tennessee. First, Maryland will play in the Memphis Intercollegiate (Oct. 19-20) at Colonial C.C. and wrap up the season in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Aldila Intercollegiate.
Hanna, entering his 19th year as head coach of the Terrapins, believes Maryland's fall schedule is the strongest to date during his tenure in College Park. "It's the best schedule I've seen, at least in the fall season, that we've had since I've been here," he said.
Maryland will have five juniors and four sophomores comprise the roster when play tees off in mid September, including a 2009 All-ACC selection in sophomore John Popeck.
