Eades, Peffley Finish Strong at NCAA Men's Golf

ORLANDO, Fla. - John Eades and Blaine Peffley each shot 1-over-par 73s on Saturday as the University of Maryland climbed three spots to finish in a tie for 20th as a team at the NCAA East Regional men's golf tournament played at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club.

Eades and Peffley each shot their best rounds of the tournament to lead the Terrapins to a 298 team total on the final day. Maryland finished with 915 over the 54-hole event, tying for 20th with Western Illinois. The Terps were eight shots out of 19th place, held by Rhode Island.

Wake Forest fired a final-round 283 as a team to claim the championship, edging top-seeded Georgia by one stroke. The Demon Deacons finished at even-par 864 for the tournament, one shot better than the Bulldogs. UNLV captured the 10th and final qualifying position for the NCAA National Championship with a three-round fotal of 884. Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Indiana tied for 11th at 891.

Peffley's round included an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, as his final round 73 gave him a 230 total and tied him for 90th place individually. Eades shot a 36 on the front nine and put three birdies on his card for his 73 on Saturday, as his total of 233 tied him for 110th.

Also for Maryland, Tyler Witman also finished at 230 for the tournament after a final-round 76 on Saturday. He had 14 pars and one birdie on his round. Tully Coyle also shot a 76 on Saturday for a 239 total, tying for 127th on the leaderboard. Matt Schall finished in a tie for 103rd with a 232 total.

Individually, Kevin Chappell of UCLA had a 68 on Saturday to finish at 5-under-par 211 for the tournament and claim medalist honors. He rallied for a one-stroke victory over Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina, Jarred Texter of UNLV and Taylor Wood of Southern California.

The top 10 teams at each of three regional tournaments this weekend advance to the NCAA National Championship to be held in Sunriver, Ore., between May 31 and June 3. Full results of each regional are available at
