Witman Has Strong Day in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Tyler Witman was tied for eighth place individually after Monday's two rounds of the Anteater Invitational men's golf tournament being hosted by UC Irvine.

Witman carded rounds of 74 and 76 on the par-72 layout and his 150 total led University of Maryland players.

As a team, Maryland was in eighth place after the first two rounds, with the third and final round scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Also for Maryland, transfer Chris Gold was tied for 20th individually with rounds of 78 and 76 for a 154 total, Hunter Bendall was tied for 27th at 155 after opening with an even-par 72, Matt Schall was tied for 34th at 157, while Kyle Nathan was 48th at 166.

Skip Clasper, playing as an individual, was tied for 31st after rounds of 83 and 73 for a 156 total.

Host UC Irvine led the team standings with 596 after the opening day, with Arizona in seocnd at 600. Maryland's two-round total was 622. Domingo Jujola of USF was the individual leader after 36 holes with a 141 total highlighted by an opening-round 69.
