COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland seniors Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.) and Marcus LaChapelle (Severna Park, Md.) have been selected to the 2000 GTE Academic All-America team. Unikel, a golfer, represented Maryland on the second team while lacrosse star LaChapelle earned third team honors. Prior to this achievement both seniors were selected to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District first team. The GTE Academic All-America and All-District teams are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Unikel and LaChapelle were both members of the 1999 GTE Academic All-District second team, and were two of seven student-athletes that were honored on the 2000 all-district team for the second consecutive year. Unikel upholds a 3.56 grade-point-average in finance. LaChapelle boasts a 3.58 grade-point average in biological sciences.

Unikel completed his collegiate golf career at the NCAA East Regionals. The senior won a pair of tournaments last spring while sporting a team-leading 72.47 stroke average. He also became the first Maryland golfer in history to earn All-ACC honors in back-to-back seasons. LaChapelle completed his senior campaign with the 11-5 Maryland lacrosse team, helping guide the Terps to the NCAA quarterfinals and finishing his final college season with 14 goals and 14 assists.
