Terps Finish Second at Liberty Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. - John Eades finished third individually to lead the University of Maryland to a tie for second place in the team standings Tuesday at the Frank Landrey Invitational men's golf tournament hosted by Liberty University.

Eades shot a final-round 73 on Tuesday to finish with an even-par total of 216. He was only two shots behind medalist Mike Kirby of George Mason, who also carded a 73 Tuesday. Jeff Castle of Towson had a 70 in the final round to place second at 215.

The Terps fired 297 as a team to finish at 889, tying George Mason. Host Liberty won the team title despite shooting a 299 as a team in the final round to finish at 879. Towson had the best team round of the day at 288 and finished at 900.

Maryland placed four golfers in the top 20 individually. Matt Schall finished 11th at 224 after a 75 on Tuesday, with Tully Coyle in a tie for 12th one shot behind after a second straight 74. J.J. Occi tied for 19th at 228 after a final-round 78, with Tyler Witman shooting a 75 for a 230 total and a tie for 24th.

Maryland finishes its fall schedule this weekend at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational in Leesburg, Va.
