MacDonald Leads Terps at ACC Men's Golf

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Dan MacDonald fired a final-round 73 on Sunday to post a 54-hole total of 223 and lead Maryland finishers at the Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf championship played at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.

MacDonald's round included 15 pars, two bogeys and one birdie as he matched his 1-over-par 73 from Friday. His final score of 223 was 7-over-par and was a 12-shot improvement over his score at last year's ACC Tourney. He finished in a tie for 34th place.

Bobby MacWhinnie had Maryland's low round of the day, shooting an even-par 72. His round concluded with an eagle-3 on the 18th hole. The Terrapin junior finished 38th at 226 over the three days.

As a team, Maryland shot a 297 on the final day, finishing ninth in the standings with a total of 905. Clemson held on to win the team championship, scoring 278 on Sunday for a three-day total of 837. Wake Forest made up only two strokes of its 10-shot deficit to finish second at 845, while Georgia Tech rallied for third at 848 after firing a 274 on Sunday that was the best team score of the three-day tournament.

Also for the Terps, John Eades finished 39th at 227 after posting a 75 on Sunday. Freshman Tyler Witman tied for 42nd at 232 after a final-round 77, while Tim Kane was 44th at 238.

Sean Moore of Wake Forest rallied for a 68 on Sunday to win medalist honors. He finished at 11-under-par 205. Second-round leader Jack Ferguson of Clemson shot 70 to finish one stroke behind.
