Freshman Paces Men's Golfers at LSU Spring Tourney

BATON ROUGE, La. - Freshman Tyler Witman shot a 75 on Saturday to post a 36-hole total of 146 to lead Maryland golfers at the LSU Spring Invitational, being held at LSU's University Club.

Witman, who opened the tournament with a 71 on Friday, stands in a tie for 43rd with his 2-over-par total over the first two rounds.

Dan MacDonald had the Terps' best round of Saturday's play, carding an even-par 72. He is in a tie for 54th at 148 after the first two days of the 54-hole event. John Eades and Bobby MacWhinnie each stand at 152 and a tie for 72nd, while Tim Kane is tied for 88th at 161.

As a team, Maryland is in 16th place in the event, which has drawn many of the top ranked teams in the nation. The Terps shot a 295 in Friday's first round, and followed with a 303 on Saturday to score 598.

Furman leads the tournament with a 15-under-par team total of 561. Middle Tennessee State is second at 565.

Individually, Furman's T.J. Blandford shot rounds of 66 and 68 to post a 36-hole total of 10-under-par 134. He has a three-shot lead over Michael Thompson of Tulane heading into Sunday's final round.
