Bendall Earns Top-10 Finish at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - Hunter Bendall finished off his second straight solid performance for the University of Maryland by finishing in a tie for seventh to lead Terrapin players Tuesday at the Coca-Cola Duke Classic men's golf tournament played at the Duke Golf Club.

Bendall, a senior from Richmond, Va., shot a final-round 70 to finish the 54-hole event at 2-under-par 214. It was his second straight top-20 finish, as he tied for 16th last week at the Xavier Invitational.

As a team, Maryland fired a 291 in Tuesday's final round, its best team score of the tournament. The Terrapins moved up three spots in the team standings to 11th, finishing at 896 over the three rounds. The Terps were just one stroke behind Ohio State for 10th.

Also for Maryland, Tully Coyle tied for 28th with a 222 total, and Tyler Witman shot a 73 for a 228 total and a tie for 53rd. Freshman Brendan Tracy had a 74 for a 234 total, with Matt Schall also firing a final-round 74 and finishing at 235.

Coastal Carolina shot a 281 team score in the final round to finish at 851 and win the team competition. North Carolina was second at 864, with the host Blue Devils in third at 869.

Individually, Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina was the medalist at 207, shooting a final-round 70 on Tuesday. He finished one shot ahead of David Holzworth of North Carolina.

Maryland completes its fall schedule on Oct. 27-29 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
