RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior Joey Rice is tied for fifth with a first-round 73 and the University of Maryland men's golf team is in 10th midway through the Wolfpack Spring Open in Raleigh, N.C.
Rice, a native of Dunkirk, Md., leads the Terps with a two-over 73, tying him for fifth place individually. Tied for 21st is Sean Bosdosh at 76. William Wiseman is one stroke back at 77 while Sean Brannan and Tom Hanna III round out the team with first-round scores of 81 and 82, respectively.
Richmond's Sam Beach holds the invidividual lead after Day 1 with a two-under 69. Lamar's duo of M.J. Daffue and Xavier Feyaerts are tied for second at 70.
The Terps shot a team score of 307 Saturday and are just one stroke behind NC State, Longwood and Old Dominion, all of which are tied for seventh. Lamar leads the team race with a six-over 290 while Richmond and Francis Marion are in second and third, respectively, at 291 and 302.
The tournament will conclude Sunday at 8 a.m.
