BATON ROUGE, La. - Freshman Tyler Witman finished with a 4-over-par total of 220 for 54 holes to post his best collegiate finish Sunday and lead Maryland individuals at the LSU Spring Invitational being played at LSU's University Club.

Witman (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) shot a final-round 74 for the Terps on Sunday, earning a tie for 42nd in the individual standings. His 54-hole total far eclipsed the 238 total he posted at the James Madison Invitational last fall.

Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.) fired an even-par 72 for Maryland's best round of the day. He tied for 60th with a three-round total of 224. Dan MacDonald (Plandome, N.Y.), who entered the tournament with the Terps' lowest scoring average, finished in a tie for 56th at 223 after a final round of 75 on Sunday.

John Eades (Charlotte, N.C.) also closed with a 74 Sunday to post a 226 and tie for 69th, while Tim Kane (Simsbury, Conn.) shot 77 Sunday to finish 87th at 238.

LSU rallied for a 278 on Sunday to win the team standings by one shot over Furman. The host Tigers finished with a three-round total of 13-under-par 851. Six teams finished under par in the team standings.

Tulane's Michael Thompson shot a final-round 70 for a 9-under total of 207, then won a playoff with Furman's T.J. Blandford to earn medalist honors. There were 25 players who finished under par in the 54-hole event, which drew some of the top teams in the nation.

Maryland's men's team plays next at the Wofford Invitational on April 9 and 10. Full results of the LSU Spring Invitational are available at www.lsusports.net.
