DURHAM, N.C. - Hunter Bendall shot rounds of 73 and 71 on Sunday to tie for eighth overall and lead University of Maryland golfers at the Coca-Cola Duke Classic, being played at the Duke Golf Club.
Bendall's even-par total of 144 put him seven shots behind leader Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina, who posted rounds of 69 and 68 on Sunday.
As a team, Maryland was in 14th place with a 605 total. The Terrapins were only nine shots out of the top 10 in the prestigious event. Coastal Carolina held the team lead after the opening two rounds at 570, shooting a 282 in the second round. North Carolina was in second at 574.
Also for Maryland on Sunday, Tully Coyle rallied for a second-round 70, the lowest 18-hole score of the day for the Terps. His 147 total put him in a tie for 26th. Tyler Witman was tied for 62nd at 155, while Brendan Tracy had a 160 total and Matt Schall was at 161.
The final round of the event will be played on Monday.
