University of Maryland shot a one-under 283 Sunday to finish in third place at the 18-team James Madison Invitational here at Lakeview Golf Course.
Penn State won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 820. Host James Madison finished second with a score of 845. The Terps were third with a score of 850.
The Terps' top individual was junior Tim Kane, who shot rounds of 65-70-71-206 to finish in fourth place. Senior co-captian John Moheyer finished 10th with a three-round total of 210. Other Terp scores on Sunday included Bobby MacWhinnie (69), Dan MacDonald (71) and John Eades (80).
It marked the second consecutive year in which the Terps finished third in this tournament.
"This tournament helped us," said head coach Tom Hanna, now in his 12th year leading the Terps. "We beat a lot of teams we needed to beat."
On Saturday, Kane and Moheyer tied the Maryland single-round record by shooting 65s.
