RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior John Popeck finished in a tie for fifth individually and the University of Maryland secured its third-consecutive top-5 finish in Tuesday's final round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate golf tournament played at North Carolina State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Popeck used cards of 71, 67 and 73 to finish at 2-under-par, putting him in a five-way tie for fifth place. Freshman William Wiseman shot an even 213 over the 54-hole event. Junior Joey Rice finished tied for 19th overall with his 216 finish. Junior Sean Bosdosh finished at 220, tied for 29th and senior Tom Hanna III finished at 223, tied for 44th.
As a team, Maryland shot 858 over three rounds to finish in fourth place. The Terrapins have grabbed three consecutive top-5 finishes this fall. Before claiming fourth at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, the Terps nabbed fifth at the Maryland Intercollegiate and then won the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational. Host North Carolina State finished atop the standings to claim the title. The Wolfpack finished the invitational at 844, four strokes ahead of Duke and 11 strokes in front of Wake Forest.
Individually, Albin Choi of North Carolina State earned the victory, finishing at 6-under-par 207. Lee Bedford of Wake Forest was one stroke back , with Evan Beck of Wake Forest and Brinson Paolini of Duke tied for third at 210. Maryland plays on Oct. 11 through 12 at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
