Peffley, Terps Top Standings at Furman Golf

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Junior transfer Blaine Peffley shot a 3-under-par 69 to move into the individual lead and sparked the University of Maryland to the top of the team standings Saturday in the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate men's golf tournament being played at the Furman University Golf Course.

Peffley was tied for second place heading into Saturday's round, but took the lead with his 36-hole total of 139. Justin Newton of Elon was in second at 141 after rounds of 71 and 70, while first-round leader Adam Dox of Wofford was tied for fifth at 143 after shooting a 74 on Saturday.

As a team, Maryland used Peffley's 69 and a 70 from Tully Coyle to post a second straight score of 289. The Terrapins' two-round total of 578 was seven shots better than Chattanooga and Samford. The Moccasins of Chattanooga had the day's best team score at 286.

Also for the Terps, Coyle was tied for seventh with an even-par total of 144, with Tyler Witman tied for 10th at 142 after firing a 72 on Saturday. John Eades was tied for 32nd at 150, with Skip Clasper at 157 and a tie for 77th.

Playing individually, Maryland's Matt Schall was tied for 27th at 149, with Hunter Bendall in with a two-day total of 164.

The final round of the Furman Intercollegiate will be played on Sunday.
