Terps in 11th after Day One of Aldila Invitational

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Sophomore John Popeck shot 1 over par through two rounds Monday on the first day of the Aldila Scenic City Invitational and the University of Maryland golf team finished the day in 11th place at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Terrapins shot 589 (300-289) to sit at 13 over par heading into Tuesday's final round.

Popeck shot a 1-over-par 73 in the first round before shooting even-par in the second round. Joey Rice is right on Popeck's heels, finishing 2 over par on the day with rounds of 74 and 72. Tom Hanna III overcame a 6-over-par 78 in the opening round before rebounding with the Terps' best round of the day in round two, a 1-under-par 71. Andrew Kay shot 151 (77-74) and Donnie Shin finished at 155 (76-79).

Host Chattanooga and Wichita State are tied for the lead at 12 under par with Southern Miss close behind at 10 under. Charlotte's Olafur Loftsson is first in the individual standings at 9 under par.

Maryland plays its final round of the fall season Tuesday morning.
