RALEIGH, N.C. - John Popeck continued his hot fall season as he used a 4-under-par second round to lead the Terps to third place after one day at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on the par-71, 7,358 yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Monday.
To open the invitational, Popeck hit an even 71 before hitting a 67 to end the second round tied with Brent Paul (Georgia State), David Watkins (East Carolina) and Brinson Paolini (Duke). The junior from Washington, Pa. trails only Albin Choi from host school North Carolina State.
As a team, Maryland shot a 565, 3-under-par. The Terps are only seven strokes behind Duke for the lead and four strokes behind the Wolfpack for second place. Will Wiseman and Joey Rice are tied for 11th place individually after day one, each shooting 70 and 71 in the first two rounds. Tom Hanna III and Sean Bodosh are both tied for 38th after carding 147 on Monday.
The Terps will return to the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Tuesday for round three tee times beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Live scoring is available for the final round at http://www.GolfStat.com.
