TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore John Eades of Maryland was in a tie for fifth place individually after Monday's two rounds in the Seminole Intercollegiate men's golf tournament being hosted by Florida State University.
Eades (Charlotte, N.C.) opened with a round of 4-under-par 68 in the morning, but followed with a 78 to post a 2-over total of 146 after 36 holes. He is one of four golfers at 146 in a group that trails Kellen Altman of the College of Charleston, who used a second-round 68 to finish the day at 141. Tigh VanLeeuwen of UAB is in second individually, one stroke behind.
Maryland had a tough second round en route to 11th place as a team after Monday's play. The Terps posted a 300 in the first round, but shot 322 in the second to score 622 after 36 holes.
Georgia State, which has three players in the top five individually, led the team scoring at 591, with Central Florida in second at 594. Vanderbilt and UAB were tied for third four strokes back in the team standings.
Maryland's Tim Kane (Simsbury, Conn.) opened with a 76 and followed with an 80 to tie for 38th, while Dan MacDonald (Plandome, N.Y.) also had an 80 in the second round to tie for 41st with a 157 total. Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was in 54th with a 163 total and Jeff Spradlin (Leawood, Kan.) was 58th at 172 after Monday's rounds.
The final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
