BEALLSVILLE, Md. - John Popeck used a pair of 69 cards to finish 36 holes with a 138 total and tie for fourth place individually Monday at the Georgetown Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, hosted by Georgetown University.
Popeck, a junior from Washington, Pa., is only one shot behind a trio golfers- Vaitma Guillaume of Campbell, Zach MacDougall of Eastern Michigan and Austin Kelly of Miami (Ohio)- for first place overall.
As a team, Maryland finished both the first and second rounds Monday in third place, tied with Eastern Michigan. The Terps hit 288 and 279 on Day One and finished at one-under-par. Maryland and head coach Tom Hanna trail Campbell by eight strokes for first place. The Terps are only two strokes behind Miami (Ohio) for second.
Also for Maryland, Joey Rice shot a 142 on the day to finish tied for 18th. Will Wiseman is tied for 27th at 145. Sean Bosdosh is locked in a tie at 32nd with a 146 and two strokes behind Bosdosh is Tom Hanna III at 44th with a card of 148.
