JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - University of Maryland junior Chris Gold shot a blistering 7-under-par round of 65 to move up 19 spots on the leaderboard and tie for second individually Sunday at the Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.

Gold finished with a three-day total of 8-under-par 208, just two strokes behind Chris Paisley of Tennessee, who used a second-round 64 to grab the lead he would never relinquish. Gold had six birdies, one eagle and a bogey on Sunday, turning the back nine in 31 after starting his round on the 10th tee.

Gold's sparkling round helped Maryland move from 13th to a tie for eighth in the final team standings. The Terrapins posted a season-best team score of 276, the low round by a team in the entire tournament, to finish at 861.

Freshman Andrew Kay shot a 69 on Sunday, with sophomore Brendan Tracy at 71 and freshman Donnie Shin also at 71. Tracy tied for 22nd individually at 215, with Shin tying for 41st at 219 and Kay scoring 224 to tie for 63rd. Tom Hanna III tied for 76th at 228 after a final-round 76.

Virginia Tech and North Carolina tied atop the team standings at 852, but the Hokes were awarded the team title based on a better finish by their No. 5 player. Host East Tennessee State was third at 854.

Maryland finishes its Fall 2007 schedule on Oct. 29 and 30 at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate.
