Maryland Men's Golf Remains Ninth At ACC Championship

UWHARRIE POINT, N.C. - With a two-day total of 590, the University of Maryland men's golf team stands in ninth place at the 49th annual ACC Championship at Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point. The nation's No. 1-ranked team, Georgia Tech, continues to lead the conference field at 555, but the Yellow Jackets lost four shots from the first round to second-place Clemson (560). North Carolina State tied for the best team round today with a 279 and sits in third place at 567.

The Terps followed up yesterday's 294 with an eight-over-par round of 296 for the squad's best two-day total at the ACC Championship since the 1998 team started 294-291--585. At 590, Maryland is four shots behind seventh-place Virginia and one shot behind eighth-place Duke.

Junior John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio) paced the Terps in the second round by matching his best career score with a 68. The four-under-par total, tied for the second-best individual score on the day, leaves Moheyer in a 21st-place tie at 144.

North Carolina's Dustin Bray continues to lead all individuals with an 11-under-par total of 133, while Georgia Tech's Nicholas Thompson (136) and Matt Weibring (138) stand second and third, respectively.

Among the Terps' other scores, senior Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.), who was tied for sixth place after a first-round 69, slipped to a tie for 27th after shooting a second-round 77. Freshman Bobby MacWhinnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who was tied for 13th after his first-round 71, fell to a 35th-place tie following a 78 in the second round. Sophomore Tim Kane (Simsbury, Conn.), who improved four shots on his first round by shooting the Terps' second score today with a 74, stands 41st at 152 while senior Pete Toole (Lancaster, Pa.) is 45th at 165.

Play resumes tomorrow with the third and final round of the ACC Championship. Maryland will compete with Duke and Virginia in the early wave, with tee times between 8:30-9:10 a.m.
