Kay Leads Terps on Day One of VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - Junior Andrew Kay paced the University of Maryland men's golf team Monday through the first two rounds of the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club, finishing 3 over par after 36 holes. The Terrapins are in 13th place in the team standings.

The Terps shot a combined 26-over-par 602 with rounds of 296 and 306. Kay shot an even-par 72 in the first round and a 3-over-par 75 in the second.

Tom Hanna III shot 151 (73-78), Brendan Tracy shot 153 (75-78) and Sean Brannan also shot 153 with rounds of 78 and 75, respectively. Donnie Shin finished the first day at 156.

Playing as an individual, Chris Miller finished with a 159.

UNC Wilmington leads the team standings, owning a seven-stroke edge on Wake Forest. Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow shot 7 under par on the day and leads the individual standings by two shots on UNC Greensboro's Robert Hoadley.

The final round of the tournament begins at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
