Men's Golf Finishes Tied for Ninth at Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - After the first day of the Cavalier Classic, the Maryland men's golf team sits tied for ninth place overall, led by Brendan Tracy and his even-par round of 72. Tracy is tied for 14th individually. Maryland shot a combined 298, just two strokes out of fifth place and eleven behind the leader, South Carolina.

Maryland's score became final when the final round of competition on Sunday was cut short due to inclement weather.

Tracy got off to a fast start, shooting a 4-under 32 on the opening nine. Now tied for 14th, Tracy is five strokes back of the leader, Josh Brock of UNC Wilmington.

Shooting a 2-over round of 74, Chris Gold is tied for 28th, the next-best finishing Terrapin. Tied for 39th, John Popeck is just a stroke back of Gold, posting a 3-over 75 on Saturday.

Tom Hanna III shot a 77, leaving him tied for 59th overall. Meanwhile, Andrew Kay's round of 78 left him tied for 67th place.

Maryland is back in action on Sunday when the Cavalier Classic concludes.
