WALLACE, N.C. - John Popeck shot a final-round 71 and the Maryland men's golf team finished eleventh at the River Landing Intercollegiate. Popeck's 1-under par round left him at 5-under for the tournament, good for a third-place tie just five strokes behind the leader.
Popeck, who shot back-to-back rounds of 70 on the first day of competition on Friday, was the only Terrapin to fire three rounds of par or better. He was one of just six golfers in the field to accomplish that feat.
The best round of the day for Maryland was posted by Tom Hanna III, whose 3-under par 69 was eight strokes better than his previous best showing of the tournament, a first-round 77. He finished tied for 65th place overall.
Finishing second for the Terps was Chris Gold, whose third-round 78 left him at 6-over, in a tie for 43rd. Donnie Shin shot a 1-over 73 to finish at 16-over for the event, in a tie for 72nd. Chris Miller ended up 79th, and Andrew Kay tied for 81st place.
Maryland is back in action on Friday, April 17, when they travel to New London, N.C. to open the ACC Championships.
