Men's Golf Prepares for ACC Championships

April 14, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's golf team is preparing for the ACC Championships, which open this Friday at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. Maryland's top five players will tee off beginning at 9:10 a.m. Friday, with the top golfer going out at 9:50. Fans can catch all the action for free on ACC Select.

Maryland will be led by freshman John Popeck, coming off two of the best performances of his young career. In a one-round event at Rehoboth Beach last Monday, Popeck earned his first collegiate victory when he shot a 1-under 70 and won a playoff from the University of Pennsylvania's Brett Rendina. His day led the Terrapins to a team victory in the nine-school event.

Following that, Popeck took third place at the River Landing Intercollegiate over the weekend, firing three straight rounds under par to finish 5-under overall.

Maryland will also rely on sophomore Donnie Shin, who tied for fourth overall at Rehobot, and senior Chris Gold, who has two top-20 finishes thus far this spring and has shot three rounds under par - leading the team before Popeck's three rounds at the River Landing Intercollegiate.

The Atlantic Coast Conference has made the weekend's action available online to fans through ACC Select. Fans can watch on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. by clicking here, while they can do the same on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. by following this link
