COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics team opens its 2013 season on Thursday, Dec. 12, with its annual Red vs. Black intrasquad meet as the Terps and head coach Brett Nelligan announced the 2013-14 schedule on Tuesday.
The schedule is highlighted by two meets with former EAGL-rival West Virginia and a trip to Raleigh to face defending league champion NC State in February. While the Terps won the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) regular season last year, the Wolfpack edged them out at EAGL Championships with a score of 195.175 to 195.100.
"I'm really excited about this year's schedule,” said Nelligan. “We get to see the very best of the conference, both home and away, as well as a few great out of conference match-ups. As a team, we really want to make a statement in this our last year in the ACC/EAGL."
Following the intrasquad meet on Dec. 12m the Terps open the season at Central Michigan on Jan. 10, followed by the home opener against West Virginia on Jan. 17.
Maryland hits the road the next two weeks to face EAGL rivals for the first time in 2014 as they take on North Carolina (Jan. 26) and New Hampshire (Feb. 1).
The team returns home for a three-week homestand, which begins with a quad-meet versus Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Towson and George Washington at Comcast Center on Feb. 10. The following weekend, the Terps will host a tri-meet with Bowling Green and Yale (Feb. 21).
Back on the road, the team travels to NC State for a tri-meet against the Wolfpack and Pittsburgh (Feb. 28) to close the month of February. The Terps then travel to nearby Foggy Bottom for a tri-meet against George Washington and New Hampshire (March 3) followed by a tri-meet at Pittsburgh with North Carolina (March 7).
The regular season ends at home against West Virginia on March 16.
