Former Terrapin linebacker, Moise Fokou, will hang up his Tennessee Titans helmet for a night and pull out his apron to help at Celebrities At Your Service, hosted by his foundation, Root 53.

Fokou will be joined by other NFL players, including former Terrapin and current Baltimore Raven, Torrey Smith, on July 21 at Del Frisco’s Grille in Washington, D.C.

“I’m glad and honored that fellow NFL players help Root 53 and give back to children, too,” Fokou said. “A lot of these guys are my good friends, and I think we all have the common goal of giving back.”

Fokou and his fellow volunteers will be working as waiters and with the opportunity to mingle and talk to all of the guests. Fokou is especially looking forward to meeting the supporters of both his game and his foundation.

The difference between this event and a typical fundraiser dinner is the hands-on aspect. The players take a night off from their day jobs to serve others.

“We wanted to hold a fun event with fine dining that would help kick off the Root 53 Lunchbox and Backpack Initiatives,” Fokou said. “It’s a project that would provide kids with a lunchbox for a week and a backpack filled with school supplies for the year. We want to be able to kick off this project with the proceeds raised from this event.”

There are two options for purchasing tickets to the event. For $75, guests receive a three-course meal and choice of signature cocktail before dinner. For $200 they receive a VIP pre-reception and player meet and greet, mezzanine kitchen-side seating, a premium three-course meal and an open bar for the night.

In addition, guests are encouraged to tip the players for their services and participate in a silent auction. All proceeds from the event go toward Root 53.

Fokou’s foundation focuses on encouraging children to make healthy decisions and to be educated on the importance of nutrition and exercise. Last spring, he hosted an event at Comcast Center for 50 children from Montgomery County’s Housing Opportunity’s Commission. The children heard from a nutritionist and visited various food stations that taught them about making healthy choices.

Fokou hopes to help his foundation with the great philanthropy they have done thus far, and to continue it for many years to come. In the meantime, he is focused on this event.

“We will be on our feet all night - just like during the regular season, except we will be serving food and drinks to guests for a worthy cause. It'll be good for us to take a break from our regular daytime jobs.”

About Root 53

The ROOT 53 FOUNDATION is a foundation that is focused on the overall development and well being of children growing up in highly urban areas. A child who is not given the opportunity to grow both intellectually as well as emotionally is a child that will not prosper. The mission of the ROOT 53 FOUNDATION is to prepare children to be successful by providing intellectual and emotional support.

About Moise Fokou

The ROOT 53 FOUNDATION was created by Tennessee Titan linebacker Moise Fokou in 2012 to provide support for the youth in urban Maryland, Indiana, Tennessee and across the country.  Many of the children growing up in urban areas are less privileged and do not receive the attention or resources they require to succeed.  Moise Fokou believes that he can make a difference for these children and their families.
