Maryland Rallies to Top Duke

Advances to the ACC Women's Soccer Finals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--The No. 3 seeded Maryland Terrapins rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat No. 2 seeed Duke 2-1 Friday evening and advance to Sunday's championship match of the 10th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at Spry Soccer Stadium.

The Terrapins will face the winner of the North Carolina-Clemson semifinal match.

Duke jumped out to the lead as Andi Melde delivered a cross to Samantha Baggett who recorded the Blue Devils' lone score at the 31:46 mark of the first half. Maryland battled back to tie the match in the second half when Kari Sarver sent a pass over to Jackie Mynarski who nailed the goal into the upper left corner at the 78:39 mark. Less than five minutes later, the Terrapins' Keri Sarver beat out Duke goalkeeper Isis Dallis to nail a shot into the lower left corner of the net.

Maryland's win over the Blue Devils avenges a 3-2 regular season loss on October 17 and puts the Terrapins in the finals of the ACC Tournament for the second time in three years. In 1995 the Terps lost to top-seed North Carolina 3-0 up in College Park.
