COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to Longwood Saturday for a doubleheader that will close the Terps' home slate. The Terrapins (31-19, 7-10) and Lancers (35-15) will meet for the first time in series history.
Junior Kerry Hickey threw her 10th career no-hitter Wednesday night against Delaware State. It was her second of the season and the Terps' third, as sophomore Kendra Knight threw her first on March 17.
Knight earned her 300th strikeout Wednesday night and is the seventh Terp to break the mark. Hickey recorded her 400th strikeout last weekend at N.C. State. She is the fourth Terrapin to do so. Hickey and Knight combine for an ACC-best team ERA of 1.56.
The Terps are batting .266 as a team - third in the ACC. Senior Alex Schultz carries an average of .413, which is second in the league and best-ever for a Terp in a single season.
The Lancers come to College Park with an 8-6 record in road games. Longwood is led by Brooke Short, who averages .436 at the plate, and Kami Nuckols, who averages .428. Nuckols leads in hits with 74 and Short leads with 42 RBI, as does Amy Betterton. As a team, the Lancers hit .325, which puts them at No. 13 in all of Division I.
Saturday's games will begin at 1 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Gametracker will be available for both games.
