COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team plays host to Virginia in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be the final conference home series for seniors Jenny Belak, Meghan Booth, Brittany Bessho, Whitney Reigel and Sarde Stewart. The seniors will be honored before Sunday's game, which starts at 1 p.m. The Terps come in to the series 30-14 on the season and 4-8 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Belak leads the Terps this year with a .353 batting average, while Stewart leads the team with five home runs and 32 RBI. Belak has already broken three school records this season including stolen bases with 50, triples with 12 and 706 at-bats in a career. She is also just five hits shy of tying the career hits record of 212, currently held by Kelly Shipman.
Virginia comes into town with a record of 13-31 and 4-11 in ACC play. The Cavaliers are led by Kelly Haller, who has a batting average of .327, Carly Winger, who has six home runs and 24 RBI and Lindsay Preuss is also a power threat with six home runs and 21 RBI on the season.
Virginia leads the all-time series, 26-12, but the Terps took all three meetings between the schools last year in Charlottesville, Va. In 2006, Virginia took two out of three from Maryland in College Park, Md.
