#23 Maryland Softball to Host Maryland Spring Break Classic This Weekend

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team will play host to the Maryland Spring Break Classic, starting Friday at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. The Terps open up the tourney against St. Peter's on Friday at 5 p.m. Maryland then plays Lehigh and Valparaiso on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively before taking on UMBC and Niagara on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

    The Terps (19-2) come in having split a doubleheader against Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon. Meredith Nelles pitched a three-hit shutout for her fourth shutout of the season. She lowered her ERA to 0.99 with an 8-0 record.

    St. Peter's (0-7) last outing doubleheader defeat against St. John's, 2-0 and 13-2. Maryland has never faced St. Peter's.

    Lehigh (13-1) comes in having its best start in school history. The Mountain Hawks have been led by Lisa Sweeney, the two-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, is 7-0 with a 0.64 ERA. Sweeney has also led Lehigh's bats with a .528 average. The Terps have never faced the Mountain Hawks.

    Valparaiso (8-4) travels to Robert E. Taylor Stadium as the only team to beat Lehigh so far this season. The Crusaders are led by Ashley Wolter, who has a .424 average with two home runs and eight RBI. This will be the first meeting between Valpo and Maryland.

    UMBC (4-8) comes back to Maryland after losing a doubleheader sweep to the Terps on Feb. 27, 5-1 and 8-0 in five innings. Amanda Fefel leads the Retrievers with a 3-0 record along with batting .429 with two home runs. This match up's video will available live on ACC Select.

    Niagara (4-6) comes to town currently holding all three MAAC weekly awards. Jenna Baker won Player of the Week, while Brooke Viola won Pitcher of the Week and Teresa Healy won Rookie of the Week. The Purple Eagles have never faced the Terps.

    Parking Information: Fans can park in Lot 4B for the games. Please park your car, and come to the concourse where you can pick up a permit that can be used during the tournament. Cars parked in any other lots will be subject to University parking rules.
