COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team dropped two games Saturday in the Maryland Spring Break Classic. In the first game, Sarah Dooley and Meredith Nelles combined for 10 strikeouts while only allowing three hits, but Lehigh defeated the Terps, 1-0. In the second game, Valparaiso used a seven-run fourth inning as the Crusaders defeated Maryland, 7-5. The #23 Terps dropped to 20-4 on the season.
Against the Crusaders, freshman Kerry Hickey hit her third home run of the season, along with pitching 3 2/3 innings of scoreless work in relief after Valpo struck for seven runs in the fourth inning.
Belak tripled and scored on a throwing error for the 10th triple of her career, tying her with Keri Lounge for most in school history. She broke the record in the seventh inning when she tripled to left field.
Maryland's Sarah Dooley took both losses on the day as her record fell to 8-4.
Maryland concludes the Maryland Spring Break Classic Sunday with games against UMBC and Niagara at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
