Plant City, Fla. - The Terps (9-8) dropped a 3-0 contest to Houston Saturday afternoon to wrap up the Speedline Invitational Tournament. The loss left Maryland with a 2-3 record on the weekend, earning their only victories against Florida International and Michigan State.
The Cougars put their first run on the board in the second inning when Ali McDougall homered to left centerfield. Maryland made some costly mistakes in the field that led to Houston's other two runs. The Terps had five hits in the game but never had more than one runner on base in an inning. Starting pitcher Amanda Bettker (St. Petersburg, Fla.) gave up five hits and struck out four in the loss.
Maryland will face LaSalle in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be Maryland's home opener and also the first game played at the school's new softball facility.
