The Maryland softball team will play host to Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Virginia Tech in a home weekend series beginning Saturday. The Terps (23-15, 1-7) have won their last three straight games, beating No. 19/16 Florida State 6-2 Sunday and shutting out George Washington 8-0 in two games Wednesday evening.
The Hokies come to College Park with a 15-24 record on the year and are 2-7 in ACC play. Virginia Tech is 2-8 on the road and has won three of its last 10 games this year.
The Maryland offense was more than productive Wednesday night against the Colonials. The Terps racked up 29 hits on the night, 15 RBI and had 10 extra base hits on the night.
Sophomore Kathy McLaughlin hit two triples to move into third all-time in the Maryland record books with seven in her career. Senior Alex Schultz's .419 average on the year is currently the best single season batting average in Maryland softball history.
The Terrapin pitching staff of junior Kerry Hickey and sophomore Kendra Knight are both in the top ten among Maryland pitchers in career strikeouts. Hickey recently entered the top five with 370 K's and Knight sits at No. 9 with 254.
Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game will begin at 1 p.m. as well.
