#23 Maryland Softball Shuts Down St. Peter's, 8-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Sarah Dooley pitched six scoreless innings for her eighth win on the season as Maryland defeated St. Peter's, 8-0 in six innings, in the opener of the Maryland Spring Break Classic on Friday afternoon. The win extended the 23rd ranked Terps' best start in school history to 20-2. St. Peter's fell to 0-8 with the loss.

Dooley finished with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings with no walks. She now has recored 56 on the season with a 1.13 ERA.

In the first inning, Maryland's Alex Schultz hit a bases-clearing double to give the Terps a 3-0 lead as they have now won 17 out of their last 18 games.

The Terps scored three more in the second as Brittany Bessho tripled to score Niki Lau and Kerry Hickey. Ttwo batters later, Bessho scored on Devon Williams' single.

In the sixth inning, after Schultz was hit by a pitch and Niki Lau bunt singled, Breanna Shaw doubled to right-center field to score the final runs of the game.

Other action in the tournament on Friday included UMBC defeating Lehigh, 3-0, Lehigh blanking Valparaiso, 1-0, and Valparaiso shutting out UMBC, 8-0 in five innings.

The Terps return to action in the Maryland Spring Break Classic Saturday, as they take on Lehigh and Valparaiso at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
