COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team heads to Atlanta, Ga. to face off against Georgia Tech in a doubleheader starting Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale is Sunday at 1p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on WMUCsports.com.
Senior Jenny Belak needs one hit to break the all-time hits record at Maryland with 212. She has already broken three school career records this season, including stolen bases with 55, triples with 12, and at-bats with 723.
Head coach Laura Watten looks for her 100th win at Maryland as the Terps look to strengthen their position heading into the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. Maryland (34-15) is currently fifth in the ACC with a record of 6-9, while the Yellow Jackets (27-28) are sixth with a record of 6-11.
The Terps are coming off their highest run total since 1998, a 17-1 victory over George Washington on Wednesday. Senior Sarde Stewart hit two home runs to bring her team-leading total to nine, while freshman Julie Lofland launched the first home run of her career.
Georgia Tech comes into the series having won 10 of 12, with Aileen Morales leading the team with a batting average of .353 with six home runs. The Yellow Jackets' biggest power threat is Brittany Barnes, who has 11 home runs, while three others have eight.
The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series 22-16, including all three meetings last year.
