College Park, Md. - Terrapin outfielder Danielle Carpenter (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) was selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II First Team. Carpenter, who majors in secondary education and mathematics, has attained a 3.61 cumulative GPA in her years at Maryland.

Carpenter ended her career at Maryland batting .282, third highest on the team this season. She assumed a pinch hitter role for the Terps while overcoming a midseason injury.

The first team, which has ten members, was selected from all Division I softball programs in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, and West Virginia. Last season, former Terrapin shortstop Jennifer Potzman earned Verizon Academic first team honors and former outfielder Michelle Burrell earned second team honors.
