Seventh Inning Rally Carries Terps Past Siena, 7-3

March 31, 2002

Fairfax, Va. - Maryland's late-inning rallies in the sixth and seventh innings salvaged a 7-3 win Sunday morning in the final game of the George Mason Spring Clash in Fairfax.

Catcher Beth Radford (Dunkirk, Md.) homered to give the Terps a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Kiesha Pickeral (Hughesville, Md.) drove in two to increase the Maryland lead to 3-0 with a pinch hit single with two outs in the sixth. Starting pitcher Monica Cyphert (Warren, Ohio) held Siena until the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Saints scored three runs to tie the game at 3-3. Freshman hurler Jessica Aditays (Shrewsbury, Mass.) replaced Cyphert and stopped Siena's offense for the win. Freshman Adrian St. Cin took the loss for Siena.

Maryland battled back in the top of the seventh thanks to Radford's bat. Radford doubled in Jen Peel (St. Leonard, Md.), who led off the inning with a double, and Casey Leiter (Lake Stevens, Wash.). Jillian Callaway (Brandywine, Md.) and Malissa Moczulski (Burlington, N.J.) also drove in runs to secure Maryland's lead.

Maryland earned three wins in this weekend's tournament, with the team's only loss coming against tournament host George Mason. The Terps will resume play on Saturday as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on ACC rivals Virginia and Georgia Tech at the UNC Tournament.
